The Brief
Located at the edge of Table Mountain Nature Reserve, this existing house was built in the late 1980s. Set across three floors, it enjoys sweeping views of Cape Town’s CBD and Table Mountain. Our brief was to transform part of the first floor living area and kitchen into a contemporary, functional space, while completely reworking the third floor into a luxurious main bedroom suite with a reading room and study that fully capitalizes on the views.
The Concept
The main kitchen and adjoining scullery were redesigned to improve functionality while introducing updated finishes, textures, fixtures and lighting, all while maintaining the kitchen’s connection to the living area and city views.
The third floor was redesigned to make full use of the available space, including enclosing the old balcony to create a new study linking the bedroom to the city views. A full-length pocket door was introduced to provide privacy and sound control between the spaces.
Herringbone French oak floors contrast with simple white surfaces, including tongue-and-groove ceilings, textured brickwork, and cabinetry, creating a sophisticated and calming interior across the floor. An off-shutter custom hot tub was added to enjoy Cape Town’s chilly winters while taking in the city and mountain views.
